Conte Killed Morata's Confidence - Barton

Former Stoke City midfielder, Joey Barton, has said that Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte‘s ‘childish’ touchline manner is to blame for striker, Alvaro Morata’s recent struggles in front of goal.

The Spain international Made a bright start to his Chelsea career following his club record £58million move from Real Madrid in the summer, scoring eight goals in his opening nine matches.

But in recent weeks, Morata has found the going tougher, scoring only twice in his last 10 outings.

Against Leicester City on Saturday, the 25-year-old drew another blank.
Barton said Conte, who was seen beating the ground in frustration after his main striker missed a chance in the recent 2-2 draw with Arsenal, has affected the former Juventus star’s confidence.

He said, “Morata, who I think is an incredible player, is having a tough time at the minute, missing a couple of chances,” said Barton.

“But you look to the touchline and there’s soft lad Conte banging the floor, throwing himself around and jumping into the crowd. ‘I agree with Mourinho a little bit – behave yourself.

“Maybe celebrate goals but when your player’s missing a chance, the last thing you want to see on the telly is your manager slamming the floor and acting like a petulant child.”
